Hallgrimskirkja Lutheran Church at Sunset

“If you cry because the sun has gone out of your life, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars.” –Icelandic Proverb
I shaking up the photo deck today with a photograph from a place that is very different from Baja California!
Please do not ask me to pronounce the name of this famous Lutheran church located in Reykjavik, Iceland. As difficult as Icelandic would be to become fluent in, I would take on the task 100 times in a row in order to live there.
If you happen to visit Iceland and extend your adventure out onto the wild shores and bewitching countryside, you will encounter beautiful cliffs comprised of long chunky panels of basalt. What I love about this landmark church is how the architecture echoes the appearance these cliffs while also paying homage to the old Norwegian Viking ships–solving a design problem through historic, cultural and geographic lenses. Wow!
This was one of the very first images I took on my photographic adventure to Iceland in February of last year where I joined 5 other guests and 3 professional guides on a magical expedition of the southern coast and western peninsula. I’ll be sharing more images from this trip as the months flow by and would hop on another journey with Holly and Mark Jansen of Jansen Photo Expeditions in a heartbeat!
