The Strange Pull of Love

According to the Medicine Cards, a popular deck based on animal meanings and stories from indigenous cultures, the gentle deer represents compassion. Although many seem to think they’re unremarkable compared with less common and exotic animals I’ve always been pulled toward these quiet, gentle creatures. I stood awed taking in their quiet elegance on this golden afternoon in the Bosque del Apache.
