Going Majestic & Wide
This is THE PLACE to stay if you have $500+ per night to throw into a Yosemite vacation. Needless to say, I have no idea if it’s worth that much, but the bar at the Majestic Hotel (formerly known as the Ahwahnee) makes an impressive El Capitini that really hits the spot after a long day of hiking and shooting pictures.
I went wide for this snapshot and am tickled pink my friend, Judy Bott, is in it. She came back with some amazing iPhone pictures and I must say, in many ways, I prefer my own iPhone camera to all my heavy glass, tripod and assorted GEAR. This doesn’t mean I’d let go of my cherished photo equipment – there’s a place and time every tool, but the newer smartphones take beautiful albeit much smaller pictures. If you have no intention of printing an image bigger than 8×10″ these cameras are very good options, depending on the results you wish to achieve.
If you visit Yosemite I highly recommend renting a bike! It’s the best way to acquaint yourself with the transcendent beauty and get an overview of all the valley has to offer. Instead of bringing my heavy backpack, I took my Olympus point and shoot and iPhone along and am so happy I did. In many ways, it was the highlight of the entire vacation. No kidding!
